Transfers and type changes

Two changes move a ticket without cancelling it: transferring it to a different person, and switching it to a different booking type. Both are done from the ticket.

Transferring hands a ticket to someone else while keeping the same ticket and the same event. Use it when a holder cannot attend and passes their place to another person.

Registration → Tickets → (a ticket)

Transfer asks for the new holder’s email and badge name.

You provide the new holder’s email and badge name, and the ticket moves to them. If this ticket is the only item on its order, the whole order transfers along with it, so the new holder also takes over the order and its payments. The new holder may then need to accept the ticket and confirm their own details.

Switching changes a ticket to a different booking type, for example upgrading a Standard ticket to a Weekend one, or moving someone between tiers.

When you switch, you choose whether to update the price to the new type’s price:

  • Update the price on: the ticket is re-priced to the new booking type. If that costs more, the extra becomes payable on the order; if less, the difference is credited.
  • Update the price off: the booking type changes but the price stays as it was, for when you have agreed to hold the original price.

The switch dialog also has two stock controls. Each one names the booking type it affects, so you can see which stock moves before you confirm.

  • Return stock gives one place back to the ticket’s current booking type.
  • Take stock uses one place from the booking type you are switching to.

Both start on for an ordinary booking type. For a booking type whose Inventory counts is set to Per booking, stock does not move by default: that stock belongs to the whole booking and its roomA shared space attendees are grouped into, such as a cabin, dorm, table, or accommodation room, with a capacity for how many it holds. A room is created automatically when someone books a booking type set to create a room for each booking, or by hand when you allocate individual attendees to spaces. Room management is turned on per event., not to one ticket. Switching a ticket out of a per booking type starts with Return stock off, and switching a ticket into one starts with Take stock off.

Leave Take stock off when the person is joining a room that already exists, such as moving into a friend’s cabin, because that room’s booking already used its place. Turn it on only when the person is taking a place nobody has booked yet. To give back a per booking place once a room is empty, see Rooms and registration.

Because you switch as an admin, a switch can also move a ticket into a booking type that is full or closed, so check there is room if that matters.
