Barcode scanners

A barcode scannerA device that reads a printed barcode or QR code and types its value, used to look up an attendee from a ticket code or to confirm a badge or picklist. Most plug in over USB and need no setup. reads a printed barcode or QR code and enters its value, just as if it were typed. Most scanners plug in over USB and need no setup.

We currently support USB wedge scanners, which present themselves as a keyboard (the HID interface), rather than scanners that use their own dedicated protocol. The scanner must be able to read 2D codes such as QR codes.

Our standard model is the Zebra DS4208. A similar 2D USB wedge scanner also works.

At a desk, a scanner is used to:

  • Look up an attendee by reading their ticket code.
  • Confirm a printed badge at handover, when the badge carries a code.
  • Fulfil merch by scanning a picklist.
