Email templates
An email templateOne of the emails your site sends, such as a registration confirmation or a password reset, made up of a subject and a designed body. Built-in templates send automatically when something happens, like an order being placed or a password reset being requested. You can customise the wording and design of these, and you can also create your own custom templates to send to people by hand. is one of the emails your site sends automatically, such as a registration confirmation or a password reset. Each one has a subject line and a designed body. This page explains what the templates are and how customising works. For the step by step, see Customising an email.
The template list shows every email your site can send, grouped by the part of the product it belongs to.
The emails your site sends
Section titled “The emails your site sends”Templates are grouped by the area they belong to. In broad terms:
- Sign-in: account invitations, sign-up and email verification, password resets, and login codes.
- Orders: order confirmations, approvals, payment receipts, refunds, and overdue reminders.
- Tickets: registration confirmations, requests to accept a ticket, waitlist offers, and pre-event messages.
- Support: notifications when a support request is raised or replied to.
- Notifications: alerts sent to your own team rather than to attendees, such as an order waiting for review. One template covers all of them, so changing it changes the look of every alert email.
You do not have to use or customise any of these to run your site; they work out of the box. Customising is for when you want them to match your wording and branding.
What you can change
Section titled “What you can change”For each template you can change its subject and its body (the design and content). You do this by saving your own version, which then replaces the one that ships with the product. Templates control only what an email says, never who receives it or when it sends: those are decided by whatever the email is about, such as an order being placed.
Site-wide or per-event
Section titled “Site-wide or per-event”Templates follow the same site-wide and per-event pattern as the rest of your settings:
- Most emails can be customised site-wide, so your version is used everywhere.
- Order, ticket, and support emails can also be customised for a single event, so one event can send different wording. An event’s own version is used for that event; otherwise your site-wide version is used.
- Sign-in and notification emails are site-wide only.
Turning an email off
Section titled “Turning an email off”This is the part to watch when removing a customisation:
- Sign-in and notification emails always send. If you have not customised one, the built-in version is used. Removing your version simply restores the built-in one.
- Order, ticket, and support emails have no built-in version to fall back on. They send using your saved version. If you delete that version, the email stops sending altogether.
Who emails come from
Section titled “Who emails come from”Templates decide what an email says, not who it is from. The sender name and address are set in Settings, and the address must first be verified as an email identity.
